GODADDY.COM is a FRAUD!

I went to renew my domain-name. Turns out it had expired three weeks ago and I didn't notice because I was having trouble with my email at the time. I roughly remembered when it was due for renewal but didn't receive the email notification, so I checked up on it anyway - fortunately not too late (it was still within the grace-period), but anyway, this is where Godaddy's *** began.

When I logged into my godaddy account, the domain-name was gone, and they were advertising their services on my domain!

I called them up to see what was going on.

They told me that I have to pay them an extra $125 fee to renew it because it had expired. It was in its grace-period for only a couple of weeks (less than 30 days). The actual grace-period allowed is 30days or more - this is a simple fact and can be researched on the official internet registrar web site. However they lied to me and said that the grace-period is only 13 days, so I must pay them an additional (exorbitant) fee to renew it.

At the time of renewing, I did not know that the actual time allowed was 30 days (within which only a small regular fee for renewing a .com of around $10 would normally be charged), so, in a panic over the phone to get my site back up, I paid them.

Upon finding out a few days later that the actual grace-period is 30+ days, I called godaddy challenging them over this issue, and they openly admitted that yes, it is 30days or more, but that they have an internal redemption period of only 13 days! In other words, they steal your domain-name from your account, advertise themselves on it, and will not let you renew it as per regular registrar policies unless you let them scam you their extra fee!

(It should also be noted that if you're only using a basic "site-is-up" service like I was, according to that, your site doesn't go down - it just has a total face change - compliments of godaddy! So, the other moral is, use a service that also has change-detection if you want a reliable "your-website-is-up" checker!)

godaddy is a disgrace of a business, and upon searching for reviews on them, it turns out many people have been scammed by them like this and in various other ways.

I strongly advise/recommend that you switch everything away from godaddy ASAP!

I have since transferred my domain-name to namesilo.com, so godaddy has no further control over it and cannot interfere with it any further or try to charge me any extra fees now. namesilo.com also state that the grace-period is 30 days or more, and do not try to charge extra fees prior to that time. I don't work for them or receive anything from them. I just highly recommend them anyway.

Lastly, I charged back the godaddy fee with my bank, explaining what happened (that I'm happy for them to forward $10 to godaddy for actual service rendered (the renewal fee), but not the extra $125 too). That was two months ago. I've not heard anything back from my bank since, so it looks like godaddy have accepted that they tried to scam me, or just can't be bothered and let it go anyway.

Reason of review: fraud.

Monetary Loss: $125.

Preferred solution: Full refund.

GoDaddy Cons: Mostly a fraud business.

Location: Cheltenham, Victoria County

Hello would you be willing to sign an affidavit explaining Godaddy's shady business practices that run counter to their terms of service which actually states 42 days. Your testimony will be part of a class action lawsuit to make light of their unethical business acumen.

Yes.

Alternatively, you are welcome to quote any of my comments above. "Godaddy" would better be named "Goscammy".
